Dustin's 2011 10 Favorite and 5 Disappointments for Film

For the first time in two years, an animated movie is not on my favorite movie of the year.  In fact, there was barely an animated movie on my list but change is a good thing.  I’ve been pretty happy with the movies released this year and this was the easiest 10 I’ve done yet.  [...]

Teaser Trailer: Transformers: The Dark of the Moon

Goddamn you Michael Bay. Not because you’ve turned the Transformers into the equivalent of slow motion action sequence robot zombies, ready to be blown up at a whim, devoid of any character they’ve developed over the past 25 + years of the franchise’s existence but because – even after the cinematic proof that your take [...]

A Nightmare on Elm St. (2010)

Usually I’ll type the following sentence as a sort of colloquialism but here it’s use is completely the truth.

Where to begin…

I can say this much for the new NOES: I didn’t completely hate it. But at the same time, it’s just kind of there and then 80 minutes later it’s gone. It’s probably the best horror remake that Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes has produced but honestly, how endearing is that compliment? Completely forgettable, filled with hollow characters, fairly decent (albeit rehashed) kills, and a performance from Jackie Earle Haley that falls somewhere between ok and whatever, this new A Nightmare on Elm St. might have been cool if not for it’s sleep inducing second and third acts.

News: The Monster Squad remake

According to Deadline.com, producer Rob Cohen is hoping to direct a remake of the 1987 film, The Monster Squad.  Cohen was the producer on the original movie, which was directed by Fred Dekker and co-written by Shane Black and Dekker.   Apparently the movie will be produced by Platinum Dunes, and Michael Bay will definitely have [...]

Trailer: A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)

Well this ought to be interesting. No matter how many times I’ve been burned by the Platinum Dunes horror remakes, I still get sold on the trailers every time. The one for the first Chainsaw remake is still one of my favorite trailers. Here is the trailer for the new A Nightmare of Elm Street. I’m sold, of course, but decide for yourself after the jump.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

I will not bullshit for you one minute- this movie is terrible.  If you’re looking for a singular narrative, move the fuck along.  If you’re hoping for characters that you can relate to and worry about, better hope your ass down to The Proposal.  However, if BOOM, BANG, FUCK ME THAT’S A HUGE ROBOT are [...]
