This movie is important. Plain and simple. But not that simple. There are a lot of things working against Masked and Anonymous, not the least of which is that it was written and directed by the co-creator of Seinfeld, Larry Charles (Religulous). After all, why on earth should we listen to a professional comedian about the state of world affairs? And it certainly doesn’t help that there was virtually no marketing campaign and that it was released opposite the arthouse juggernaut, Le Divorce. It’s also an uber-politically active (or socially active, depending on how you take it) movie – never the best blockbusters. The cast list is more than impressive, but you wouldn’t be wrong to call Masked and Anonymous “preachy.” It preaches its head off. But it says things that need to be said.
