Breach Exclusive: George Lucas Remaking Star Wars 4, 5, 6 with Original Cast and Digital Han Solo!

I was sitting around the other day doing nothing. Maybe I was watching 13 Going On 30. Fine, I totally was. But then the phone rang and it was none other than George Lucas. He was already speaking mid-sentence about how the constant retooling he had performed on the negative for Episode IV had made the 3D conversion impossible. In a fit of rage, Lucas burned all of his prints available, put a hole through the wall with his face, and dusted off his original scripts.

SXSW 2010 Review: The People vs. George Lucas

I think at some point, every film fan has been pissed off at Mr. Lucas. I wasn’t so mad about the Star Wars Special Editions or prequels. But I imagine that if I hadn’t been on my honeymoon when I saw Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and thus in a heightened state of happiness, I would have blown a gasket. And he didn’t even direct that movie.

The People vs. George Lucas is a documentary that analyzes this bizarre relationship that filmgoers have with the man behind some of the biggest pop culture icons we’ve ever had. The movie navigates through a series of talking heads, stock footage, and fan made media to illustrate not only the dearth of material for and against the man but also just to show how ingrained into our society his work is. This all allows the movie to be extremely humorous at times and even strangely touching.

SXSW 2010 Preview: The People vs. George Lucas

Jesse and I will be attending the SXSW Film Festival this year so I thought I would start showing some previews of what we’re planning on seeing. First up is The People vs. George Lucas, which looks to be an expos√© on how Lucas’ fans have turned against him due to all the choices he’s made with the Star Wars films. The whole topic is pretty hair splitting for film geeks so this looks like an interesting piece. Check out the trailer after the jump!
