Hyperbolic Journalism Destroys America

This hurricane debacle has struck a nerve with me. For those that don’t follow my Twitter or G+, I was traveling in the North East last week for work. Specifically, I was flying into Philadelphia and then driving down to Atlantic City. By Wednesday evening, a dooms day scenario was in full effect for anything resembling an East Coast State. David Chen from /Film tweeted an article predicting with a 20% chance that New York City’s subways could be flooded come Saturday, thus destroying everything mankind has worked to achieve. While stopping for a break at a gas station Friday morning, every newspaper available had a headline that reiterated how screwed we were. Finally at the airport, just to aid in the hysteria, every TV available was tuned to developments on the storm as it lumbered across the ocean, hungry for blood.

Mid Summer Movie Breakdown

But not like a mental breakdown, more like an En Vogue breakdown.  And not like you’re never going to get it but… Ok well let’s move on then alright?  I don’t know if this will be a regular article or just a one time thing but I wanted to do a more “bloggy”-type write up [...]

Breaking Up With TiVo is Hard To Do

It really is a difficult decision but earlier this week the wife and I came to the conclusion that TiVo was not going to be our DVR de jour any longer.  You have likely heard me praise the platform as the de facto Digital Video Recorder but no longer can I decree this to be [...]

One Last Job: Post Production Notes

So when we last left off, principal photography (and what would be all photography) had finished and things were moving on to the editing room. Just to keep everything in perspective, part of the editing process (approximately the first two minutes of One Last Job) took place after the first day of shooting.  We then [...]

One Last Job: Production Notes

I know we mainly report on other people’s art here at The Breach, but I talked it over with James and Adam during a pre-show Breachcast talk a few weeks back and they both gave their blessing for this article so here goes.¬† I apologize for the “bloggy” nature of this post but I’m writing [...]

For Your Consideration: Flashforward Was A Failure

I know I was the one hold out from The Breach that actually stuck with this mess, but I figured there’s an article to be borne from this first and only season of Flashforward.¬† Some, as I, are completely shocked that it was canceled and V was renewed.¬† Now that the season finales have come [...]

For Your Consideration: Movie Theater Etiquette

Editor’s note: For Your Consideration is a new column here at The Breach that will work to tackle current gripes I have with the film/television industry and/or its patrons. I’ll try to post a new entry each week but that all depends on the subject matter being available for ridicule. Summer is fast approaching and [...]

They Call Her "Hit Girl"

I touched upon this in the opening of my review for Kick-Ass but I figured there was enough meat here to expound about the subject in a full article. It seems that whether you come away loving or hating Kick-Ass, the one thing you’re talking about is, surprisingly, not the titular character. ¬†Instead you’re talking [...]

The Statute of Limitations on Spoilers

Let me preface this by saying that my thoughts and opinions do not necessarily reflect that of the Media Breach as a whole, but are totally awesome and should be paid attention to as if they were handed down by God himself. Or herself.

If you’ve read a review of anything in the modern age of the internet, then you’ve no doubt noticed that at some point the reviewer, without wanting to sacrifice his or her viewpoint, will need to include some information that might just ruin the movie for those that have not seen it.

How The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien Will (Hopefully) Make Me Be a Better Person

I’ll warn you up front, this will be an unusual post from me. Media Breach is by nature not a website where we try to tell you how to live your life and we rarely if ever get into our writers’ personal lives. After all, we’re five dudes and a chick who dig film, TV, video games, or music and happen to like writing/talking about it. Yes, we do recommend things but we try to not make you feel like asshole if you disagree with one of our opinions. I know you’re wondering where this is going so let’s get to it.

The wife and I just finished watching the last episode of The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien. I’m not here to review the show itself but I think it was a fitting conclusion to what will be remembered as one of the more tumultuous and public network television guffaws. But I’m not even going to lie- I shed a tear or two during O’Brien’s farewell speech. Read what the man said after the break.

The Truth About Getting Old

So I’m likely to polarize a lot of folk with these statements, but I feel like I should say something. I couldn’t stand not being able to go see Crank: High Voltage last weekend. ¬†I was so mad at myself for not checking out the first one that I finally sat down and just watched [...]

Who Hates The Watchmen?

I feel like Adam said everything I really wanted to say in a review about Watchmen. While I don’t think the film was perfect, after having a few days to digest I’ve decided that it’s worth the trip. Besides, who doesn’t like seeing 4 blue wangs on screen at once? Just as a note- if [...]

The State of the Slasher Flick

After Scream came out in 1996, everyone cried out that the slasher film was dead.¬† It’s conventions and devices had been exposed and relentlessly mocked, and done so by one of the guys that had helped popularize it, Wes Craven.¬† It occurred to me while rewatching the original¬† Friday the 13th for the hundredth time [...]
