Fast Five Was Fast Fun For Dustin

Ok, I’m done. I will no longer drive a four cylinder vehicle. As much as I love my Honda Fit, it can’t drift for shit. Those were the kinds of thoughts I had driving home from seeing Fast Five, or the fifth entry in the Fast And The Furious franchise. Critics and assholes alike love saying stuff like “this movie jump starts the Summer season” but that would be a bit on the nose. I’ll just say that for this critic/asshole, I couldn’t have spent two more enjoyable hours than I did watching this film.

Dylan Dog Puts Dustin In A Doggie Time Out

This movie is three recognizable faces from being on SyFy’s most dangerous night of television.¬† I apologize in advance for the snark about to let loose, but I cannot abide while a movie that mixes zombies, vampires, and werewolves bores me so much that I leave before seeing a Q/A with the director. Dylan Dog: [...]

Dustin Scream(s) a Fourth

Let me begin by admitting I am a huge Scream fan and apologist. ¬†I came to know the first film in the Summer of 1997 when a buddy couldn’t stop talking about it. ¬†And I’ll admit that the ending completely fooled me. ¬†Then the second film came out that December and although I did not [...]

Dustin watches Hanna for 2 Hours and Doesn't Get Arrested

An alarming trend in Hollywood, if your Roger Ebert, is kids kicking ass. ¬†Kick-Ass showcased Chloe Moretz devastating dudes with a lot of different weaponry. ¬†And now we have Hanna, where Saoirse Ronan deals out her own brand of violent justice. ¬†Oh hell, let’s just get this out of the way. ¬†Here is a portion [...]

Breach Exclusive: George Lucas Remaking Star Wars 4, 5, 6 with Original Cast and Digital Han Solo!

I was sitting around the other day doing nothing. Maybe I was watching 13 Going On 30. Fine, I totally was. But then the phone rang and it was none other than George Lucas. He was already speaking mid-sentence about how the constant retooling he had performed on the negative for Episode IV had made the 3D conversion impossible. In a fit of rage, Lucas burned all of his prints available, put a hole through the wall with his face, and dusted off his original scripts.

Dustin Sees Red... State!

So $140 later (two tickets for the wife and myself), I have seen Red State and listened to director Kevin Smith rehash everything he tweeted in the last few months.¬† I love the guy to death but unless he’s with a film next year, I’ll be skipping out on what has become a yearly Q/A.¬† [...]

Dustin Ends Up Liking Sucker Punch

So I sat down to check out Sucker Punch on Saturday morning, fully prepared to be let down.¬† Reviews across the board have labeled this a travesty, going so far as to claim the film undoes any good will brought forth by director Zack Snyder’s previous films.¬† Sucker Punch even was bestowed with the lowest [...]

SXSW 2011 Day 5 Review: How To Die In Oregon and Hobo with a Shotgun

On no other day will I see two such diametrically opposed films, at least in regard to content. I also saw a live taping of the WTF Podcast and the Talk Nerdy To Me comedian showcase. But let’s get to the movies. How To Die In Oregon Easily the most difficult film I’ve ever watched, [...]

SXSW 2011 Day 4 Review: The Secret Screenings, Tabloid, and Win Win

The title of the post says it all, so let’s jump right in shall we? Secret Screening: Another Earth I don’t know, I firmly believe the only reason this was a “secret” was because no one would have seen it otherwise. This is the type of film that usually plays at the Alamo during the [...]

SXSW 2011 Day 3 Review: Conan O'Brien, The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, Paul, and Bridesmaids

Sunday was four movies, three of which I strongly recommend and another that was tepid but entertaining. I also believe I saw my favorite film of the fest so why don’t we start there? Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop Anyone that has visited this blog more than twice knows how much I love the man, the [...]

SXSW 2011 Day 2 Review: Panels, Pee Wee, The Innkeepers, and Super

The first Saturday of SXSW Film 2011 is over and we survived. Here’s a brief overview of what we saw. Panels for Source Code and Super I’ll keep this short since I recorded both and will post them in lieu of a podcast this week. The Source Code panel taught me that Jake Gyllenhaal is [...]

SXSW 2011 Review: Source Code

Reading other thoughts on this film I feel I am in the minority but I’ve never changed my opinion on a film while watching it more times than I did last evening during Source Code. I loved the first 20 minutes, hated the second 20 minutes, and then took turns loving and hating the film [...]

SXSW 2011 Review: Insidious

Perhaps I wanted to go against the grain on my first day of SXSW this year but once again, at least according to last night’s Tweets, I am in the minority of this one. ¬†I really liked the film and it was effective at making me uncomfortable and, yes, scared. ¬†Now understand that I am [...]

The Donut Movie: Pushing Other Projects Aside

So with SXSW on the horizon, I’ve not been able to do anything further on The Donut Movie other than make a few connections and scout out places to document. I was able to acquire www.thedonutmovie.com, but right now it just redirects to the category I created for this project at Media Breach. That said, [...]
