I know we mainly report on other people’s art here at The Breach, but I talked it over with James and Adam during a pre-show Breachcast talk a few weeks back and they both gave their blessing for this article so here goes. I apologize for the “bloggy” nature of this post but I’m writing [...]

Even after nearly six months, this is still my favorite movie from this year’s SXSW film festival. There is a trailer out there that gives WAY too much away. But I came across this teaser and decided it not only gives you a great sense of what the film is accomplishing but is pretty damn [...]

So this was one that I admitted I needed to see again before fully fleshing out an opinion. It was the last film I watched at this year’s SXSW so I was dog tired and the opening (as well as this trailer) would have you believe this is going to be an action film when it’s actually a romance set against the back drop of a future where humans are coexisting with giant aliens. The major coup for this film though are the effects. Director Gareth Edwards basically took a couple of people with him to Mexico and shot a film, guerrilla style. The whole thing was made for a small amount of money and the effects were done on Edwards’ laptop, by himself. Basically everything you see in this trailer has an effect in it- the warning signs on the road, the plane parts and the jet being pulled under water. At any rate, I’ll stop rambling but check this out after the jump.

So this was what we came for- The Expendables! A movie that promised audiences would be decimated by the shear amount of balls flying about as shrapnel throughout the film. It was 4:45AM by this point and I don’t have to tell you I was tired. Hell, after the trio of flicks we had just seen, I could have easily called it a night and gone home. Then Zack from the Alamo announced that none other than Sylvester Stallone had bought everybody in the auditorium a box of popcorn. The feast was delivered and the film started. And from the very first kill, my butt was clenched. But was it enough to sustain my excitement for a full 90 minutes? Find out after the jump.

I survived, people. I survived…
If you’re unfamiliar with this event, hosted by Zack at the famous Alamo Drafthouse in downtown Austin, it was advertised as an all night face melter. We would be shown three classic action films, selected by fans who voted on Alamo’s website, and then the regional premiere of The Expendables would complete the quadfecta of ass kickery. Oh, and did I mention this started at 10:00 pm? All I can say is I’m glad we weren’t watching Cinemapocalypse: Eat, Pray, Love, with a lead up including our favorite Julia Roberts movies. It takes the adrenaline rush of these films (along with a couple of Red Bulls) to keep a geeked up audience going.

I don’t know, this sort of seems kind of stupid to me. I refuse to believe that the train wouldn’t be going through some sort of rural area first and could just be blasted to bits without harming anyone. That said, there’s a lot of respectable people involved so I’ll give it a look in November. For now, all we have is this trailer.

I showed this to the wife and her first response was a terse but curious, “is this a joke? Are they serious?” Although not nearly as off putting as the Smurfs trailer from a while back, this is still a pretty good example of the crap Hollywood is churning out at an alarming rate. Last [...]

This will be a strange review for a number of reasons but mainly because of the recommendation I’m about to give. I think to fully grasp everything that’s going on in Inception and fully appreciate it, you have to see it twice. Now realize that I say that without actually having seen it [...]
