The Joneses

The Joneses is a story about a fake family that is put together as a unit to live in an upscale neighborhood and promote products to the community. They are salespeople who live the most beautiful life they can so that other rich people will want what they have and go out and buy it. [...]

Death at a Funeral (2010)

Death at a Funeral is a remake of a movie of the same name from 2007. The original is an oppressively British comedy without much actual comedy in it, directed by Frank Oz. I know some people were waiting to see the new Death (that’s what I’m calling it from this point on) until they [...]

Date Night

I have been pretty excited for the new Tina Fey and Steve Carell movie Date Night. I absolutely love Tina Fey as Liz Lemon on the TV show 30 Rock and Steve Carell was funny in movies such as Bruce Almighty and Anchorman. (No, I don’t think that The Office is funny. At all.) So, [...]

How to Train Your Dragon

How to Train Your Dragon is a family friendly, heartfelt children’s comedy. It’s got a good mixture of laughs for the parents and plenty of laughs for kids. I wasn’t convinced by the trailers I saw. It looked way too stock; too many silly kid jokes and I thought the main kid’s voice was too [...]

Newsworthy: "Wizard of Oz" on the Silver Screen

Speaking of remaking a “classic”, the article below describes Warner Bros. hopes for revamping The Wizard of Oz. There have been many incarnations of the L. Frank Baum novels recently including a SyFy original mini series Tin Man and the Broadway musical “Wicked” (which is actually based on the book “Wicked” which is based on [...]

Shutter Island

Ok, wow.  Buffalo Bill is in this movie. Yeah, THE Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs. I mean, enough said. That alone should make you want to see Shutter Island right now. Shutter Island is Martin Scorsese’s newest feature film since his awesome remake of the Infernal Affair series (a Chinese film franchise) called [...]

Legion

People can say what they want but this movie is not terrible. And that’s why I lost the bet. The bet: If I like Legion even a little bit and it’s better than the movie Mutant Chronicles then Zack wins a Blu-ray of his choice (please not Crank 2). Don’t get me wrong here, when I saw the trailer for Legion I definitely cringed along with the rest of the world when the old lady starts crawling up the wall. But director Scott Stewart realizes Legion’s place among movie history. It lies somewhere between B Horror movie (with gags reminiscent of Evil Dead 2) and Drama with great characterization. Based on the trailer and tag line we’re all familiar with the plot: God is mad at the human race and sends his angels to kill them all. But the angel Michael thinks God is wrong. So, he decides to protect one woman who is pregnant with the savior of mankind.

Nine

Some people are talking about Oscar nominations for the new Rob Marshall musical, Nine, but if you like good movies you’ll be extremely upset by this. Yes, yes , yes, the star of the show is the incomparable Daniel Day-Lewis who plays Guido Contini, based on the character Guido Anselmi of Fellini’s 8 ¬Ω. But [...]
