Piranha 3D Official Trailer

Piranhas have scared the hell out of me since I was a kid. ¬†The thought of being violently ripped to shreds and left as nothing but a floating skeleton courtesy of some pathetic looking tiny little fish was absolutely frightening to me. ¬†Hell, it still is frightening. ¬†Jaws damaged me enough as a child, and the first time I heard about these damn things I just completely gave up on the water. ¬†So memo to all my friends out there: ¬†this is why I can’t go with you on that beach trip ok? ¬†I don’t care what region these things are from, to me they always will be in whatever body of water I drop my pasty white body into.

The theatrical trailer for Piranha 3D actually went online late last week and for some reason or another, I missed it. ¬†I know some of you remember the teaser that popped up back in January that turned the geek world upside down with the crazy awesome cast and the fact that it’s going to be in 3D. ¬†I’m no fan of 3D used as a gimmick, but I have to go back on that little rule for this film. ¬†This is going to be spectacular. ¬†Yes, it is a remake and yes the original was done by horror camp icon Joe Dante, but this new film will have to work really hard to screw all that up. ¬†It’s got Richard Dreyfuss, Christopher Lloyd and Ving Rhames in it! ¬†I’m pretty sure I also caught a glimpse of porn star Ashlynn Brooke (don’t ask me why I know this) in it as well. ¬† I mean how can this suck?

For those of you not in the know, Piranha 3D is a remake of a film by Joe Dante of the same name and is basically Jaws with piranhas. ¬†It’s directed by Alexandre Aja who helmed the pretty good Hills Have Eyes remake a few years ago and the really great movie Haute Tension. ¬†It looks as though he’s nailed the tone of this movie, which is to say it looks fun, bloody and campy and also very in on the joke. ¬† The piranhas look pretty nasty and evil in this, and at the same time have sort of a delightful goofiness. ¬†The kind of goofiness that will eat your fat behind right through the hole of your inner tube rental. ¬†So hit up this link right here to check out the ridiculously bad ass cast list and check the embed below for the full theatrical trailer. ¬†Piranha 3D releases on August 27, 2010.
