The Hollywood Reporter has now confirmed that Chris Evans has officially accepted the role of Captain America for Joe Johnston’s First Avenger: Captain America.¬† Evans reportedly took a few days to mull it over, but honestly did we really think he’d decline?¬† What actor turns down a potential 3 picture deal and the opportunity to play without a doubt one of the most iconic and beloved superheroes ever because he’s locked into some romantic comedy?

I, for one, welcome Evans in the role although I’m aware that the nerd fanbase is sort of split down the middle on this one.¬† If some of you are worried about his acting ability outside of his smartass (and completely fun) turn as the Human Torch, then I urge you to check him out in Danny Boyle’s Sunshine.¬† The rest of the base is inexplicably concerned with the fact that he’s already played a Marvel superhero in 2 other movies, and that it’s somewhat of a conflict of interest.¬† To you guys, I would like to remind you that the world doesn’t give a damn about the Fantastic Four movies and they’ve been long forgotten.

AWESOME. i'm in. here's hoping someone turns 1602 into a movie. anyone who suddenly has the opportunity to read that g.nov should really jump at the chance.

I can live with this. The only thing I worry about with Chris Evans and the whole production in general is how well they're going play up the fact that it's supposed to be a period piece (per my understanding) that will eventually lead to Cap's “fish outta water” persona in the Avengers. That is, I really hope they don't smarmy him up.

So again, I'm cool with this but I always thought Matt Damon would've been a better (/expensive) choice.

after the disappointment of WATCHMEN, it would've been cool to give patrick wilson another superhero chance.

Oooo good one. Well, there's always Hank Pym. I could see him as a Ultimates wife beating Giant Man.

Look at his wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Wilson_%28… Hank Pym!

i'll take your word for it. i'm more of a dc guy. isn't about time for a new flash?

“Complaining about people playing multiple superheroes is like complaining about John Wayne playing multiple cowboys.”

    Agreed.

A Flash movie? Absolutely. Ryan Reynolds would've made a better Wally West than a Hal Jordan, IMO. A new Flash in the comic books? I don't think DC can handle another Flash.

to be honest, i just can't wait for kurt russell to be cast for frank miller's DARK KNIGHT RETURNS. and i just found out that neil gaiman, who i THOUGHT was working on his directorial debut about his DEATH, has actually been talking to guillermo del toro about the project, and is also trying to hook up with STARDUST/KICK-ASS director matthew vaughan to get a cable series adaptation of SANDMAN up and running. so what the hell has neil being DOING since GRAVEYARD BOOK?

  • James

Everything you just said is all news to me and has excited me thoroughly. An old grizzled Kurt Russell as The Dark Knight? Yes, please. Matt Vaughan and Del Toro attached to those respective projects? Amazing. The Graveyard Book? A fantastic little gem.

this is how rumors get started. let me just make it clear that kurt as bruce is strictly a fantasy of mine. i am in no way shape or form breaking any kind of batman news.
    it'd be awesome though…

  • James

Shh. We can make it happen.

Man, Kurt Russel as Batman is the best news I've heard all year. Thanks, Zack, for the scoop!
