    LOST SPOILERS LITTER MY COMMENT

Calling it: Sawyer becomes the new Jacob, Jack becomes the new Smokey the Man Beast.

Here's my reasoning: Sawyer is only being old Sawyer because of his recent Juliet-less situation. Give him a few episodes and we'll see the return of the James Juliet fell in love with, the character that was centered, took the good with the bad and thought things through which was, as he pointed out, the key difference between him aaaaaand…

Jack. The man's a loose cannon control freak. This was true when he was a man of science and logic and it's true now that he's a believer in destiny and faith. This echoes Smokey's sentiments: everybody who follows Jacob is in shackles, “don't tell me what I can do” which, IMO, isn't a sign of him having Locke's leftover characteristics; it's them having the same mindset from the get go with Smokey knowing what he was fighting against.

Anyway, Jack's too extreme in everything he does, he's too reactionary and throughout the show, he's never, EVER shown any signs of character growth in that department. I hate to bring this up but, Sith much? Jimbo's just going through a rough patch right now and while we might forget it, he had a stable, presumably healthy relationship with Juliet for 3 YEARS. People who scoff at them, saying they don't make sense are basing that opinion on what they know about the characters which is, nothing about the 3 three years they were together. The only time I can recall Juliet genuinely smiling on the island was when James drove up with her working on a car and coming out to greet him. That was love right there. I just made myself cry. Thanks.

I do agree with you guys, Sawyer would die in this situation but I think “Sawyer” has been out of commission for a while with James in his place.

As far as the biblical vibe goes, I think it's only there to help us relate to the situation a bit more and even then, the situational overtones aren't exclusively biblical. The issues of destiny/servitude vs. volition/freedom echo through loads of other cultures since we've been around. I don't think the culmination of the series will give us a strictly Christian interpretation. There's a lot taoist, ying yangy stuff going on here too with the seemingly subservient to the will of the island Jacob being so overtly peaceful and the extremely dominant lover of free will, MIB acting completely miserable.

Okay the soap box is ruining my pedi.
